Fending for the twins

20 year old Alice from Moroto sits with her 5 month old twins (girls) at Amber house in Uganda’s capital Kampala. She said that her husband was killed by cattle rustlers.

There is more to Kampala’s beggars than what meets the eye. Stories are told of how these peolple are brought from the Karamoja region to the city centre and the said cartels take a percentage of the beggars’ proceeds.

The United Nations African Institute for the prevention of crime and the treatment of offenders warned that human trafficking is on the rise in Uganda.
The institute says that the movement of girls from karamoja to other regions in due to economic migration as they move from a high hardship area (Karamoja) to an areas with low hardships.
