Tackling Maternal Deaths

Pregnant women take a rest near Kotido town(approximately 342 km North East of Uganda’s capital Kampala) after walking 5 kilometers to the nearest health center where they could get antenatal care.Uganda has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world at 435 per 100,000 live births. Recently, US Ambassador to Uganda Jerry P. Lanier, Christopher Dorval, Senior Advisor; Strategy and External Relations at the Global Health Initiative and Lois Quam were in Uganda to assess the situation.
